St. Joseph’s Hospital is a private, not-for-profit, community hospital comprised of St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for pharmaceutical care services for approximately 900 acute care beds with an average daily census in excess of 80%.
Clinical pharmacists are actively involved in medication order review, therapeutic monitoring, patient care planning and management, student and resident preceptorship, and interactive relationships with the health care team. Pharmacy technicians provide an integral component of the drug distribution system through the use of an automated, point-of-use dispensing system. The Department of Pharmacy is actively involved in leading several quality improvement programs including the Medication Use Safety Teams, Adverse Drug Reaction reporting, Medication Use Evaluations, Automatic Therapeutic Interchange, and other medication use activities.
The Pharmacy Practice Residency is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited program designed to provide residents with experience in a broad range of clinical areas. The resident will function as an integral part of the department’s patient care services.
The applicant must participate in the MATCH process. The applicant must submit an online application through PhORCAS to include: letter of intent, Curriculum Vitae, three letters of recommendation, and official transcript from all colleges of pharmacy attended. The applicant must participate in an interview and obtain, possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy but the start date, and obtain Florida Pharmacist Licensure within 90 days of the residency start date.
About St. Joseph's Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
St. Joseph’s Hospital is a private, not for profit, community health alliance comprised of St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Joseph's Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. The clinical pharmacists practice in the areas of pediatrics, hematology/oncology, emergency medicine, nutrition support, surgery and women’s health. The Pharmacy PGY-1 residency provides residents with experience and training in the acute care settings, drug information, therapeutic policy development and practice management. As a member of the health care team, the resident assumes responsibility and accountability for safe and appropriate drug therapy and efficient delivery of patient care. The Pharmacy PGY-1 residency is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited program designed to provide the residents with experience in a broad range of clinical areas. In addition to completing rotations in core subject areas essential to the pharmacy practitioner, participants in the residency program also select rotations that fit specific areas of interest.
