St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in conjunction with Texas A&M University Rangel College of Pharmacy promotes clinical advancement of pharmacy practice and patient care through the support of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patient with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital is a teaching hospital located in Bryan, TX and home to a Level II Trauma Center supported by award-winning surgical and medical services including trauma surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery. Awarded the status of a Primary Stroke Center and ACC/AHA Accredited Chest Pain Center, St. Joseph Health offers specialty clinical services including cardiovascular care, critical care, pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, radiation/oncology, diagnostic imaging, urology, gastrointestinal care, women’s services, pediatric care, and neonatal intensive care.

The mission of St. Joseph Health Pharmacy Services is to provide safe, extraordinary patient care and service through optimal medication management in an environment of integrity, reverence, compassion and collaboration. Our expert staff of pharmacists participate in multi-disciplinary rounding in each patient care area, partnering with physicians, nurses, dieticians and therapist to provide comprehensive, quality patient care.
The post graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency program at St. Joseph Health has pre-candidate accreditation status by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program currently offers 3 resident positions in a 12-month postgraduate curriculum that provides training opportunities to strengthen skills in patient care; advancing pharmacy practice and improving patient outcomes; leadership and management; and teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge.
Core rotations include internal medicine, critical care, trauma/surgery, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, cardiac care, and pharmacy administration.
The residency includes longitudinal experiences in medication safety, admission medication reconciliation, discharge transition of care, formulary management, practice leadership, and concentrated experiences in professional development and medical emergencies. Residents have the opportunity to engage in teaching and preceptorship of students during selected rotations.
