The purpose of the WVU School of Pharmacy Community-Based Pharmacy Residency is to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop community-based pharmacist practitioners with diverse patient care, leadership, and education skills who are eligible to pursue advanced training opportunities including PGY2 residencies and professional certifications. We aim to produce clinical, community-based pharmacists with academic and leadership skills to develop, implement and direct patient care services, manage a dispensing pharmacy, and integrate these roles to move the profession of pharmacy forward. This is a 52- week, longitudinal, full-time residency. The residency is currently recruiting for residents at its two sites through Kroger in Morgantown, WV and Marietta, OH. The residency year includes structured experiences in patient care (66%), Leadership and Management (10%), Advancement of Community-Based Practice and Improving Patient Care (20%), as well as Teaching, Education and Dissemination of Knowledge (4%). Four weeks of optional dedicated time for electives is available each year, based upon interest, availability, and approval by the Residency Program Director. Valuable teaching experiences such as a formal teaching certificate program, leading didactic small and large group pharmacy classes, serving as a co-preceptor for Doctor of Pharmacy level students, and educating other health care professionals are included. The residents provide and facilitate educational and wellness programs through their pharmacy sites and have the unique opportunity to spending ½ day per week providing patient care in outpatient clinics in psychiatry and family medicine (Morgantown residency site), as well as anticoagulation (Marietta residency site). Staffing requirements include 8 hours per week, with no weekend staffing responsibilities. Residents are not required to be "on-call."
