Residency Showcase Program Listings

The PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center PGY-1 residency program aims to train pharmacists to function as independent patient-focused practitioners who are able to provide pharmaceutical care in an acute-care community hospital clinical practice or have the qualifications to seek advanced specialty training.

As integral members of the health care team, they will actively use integrated pharmacotherapeutic skills to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for their patients.

They will develop a foundation of critical thinking skills that will enable the continuous learning, professional self-development, and innovation needed in an ever-changing health care environment.

Required 4-6 weeks rotations include internal medicine, cardiology, surgery/trauma, critical care, infectious disease, and emergency medicine   Additional longitudinal rotations include formulary management, pharmacy administration, staffing, pharmacy education (on-line teaching certificate, Grand Rounds, in-service and clinical education), and a major residency project.  Current elective rotations include outpatient oncology, ambulatory care, and informatics.  Other electives may be available based on preceptor availability.  The program provides flexibility to match rotations with areas of clinical interest for residents.

Residents will have the opportunity to serve as preceptors for PharmD students and improve their teaching and mentoring skills. An on-line teaching certificate program is required.  Additional opportunities for providing education to other medical professionals will be provided through Grand Rounds presentations and staff in-services.
