Opened in 1944 as Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital, OSUMC has grown to become the largest acute care osteopathic teaching hospital in the nation. Our hospital serves as a teaching center for 150 medical residents and helps to train a variety of healthcare professionals in a variety of different specialties. Our pharmacy program prides itself in providing a strong foundation in general medicine, teaching opportunities, and in our unique service opportunities in HIV management.
Required experiences include institutional/orientation, internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine clinic, infectious disease, and research/leadership. Longitudinal rotations include HIV clinic, staffing, and teaching. We offer a comprehensive teaching certificate program that exposes residents to small and large classroom didactic lectures and precepting. In addition, all residents will complete a major and minor research project and present that research at ASHP Midyear and Oklahoma Resident Research Conference. Elective options include, but are not limited to, cardiology, antimicrobial stewardship, nephrology, psychiatry, pulmonology, and administration. Residents function as clinical pharmacists at OSU Medical Center and affiliated OSU Physicians practice sites.
