St. Elizabeth’s Hospital serves over 40 different medical specialties and is the primary practice site for the St. Louis University Family Medicine Residency program. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is a member of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a multi-institutional health care system that sponsors 15 hospitals that is based in Springfield, Illinois. The HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program affiliated with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and offers two PGY-1 positions, one is a traditional 12-month program and one is in combination with the PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics program and is a 24-month program.  The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program allows the residents flexibility in designing their activities to meet their interests, as described below.  The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program allows the residents flexibility in designing their activities to meet their interests. Core rotations are comprised of Administration, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Distribution/Orientation, Internal Medicine and Advanced Internal Medicine, Pharmacy Informatics, and Medication Safety. More than ten elective opportunities are designed to develop advanced skills in a variety of areas and include, but are not limited to Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Oncology, Pain Management, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry. In addition, the program offers a Teaching Certificate in association with SIUE School of Pharmacy. Completion of a major research project suitable for publication is required along with a presentation at the Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference.
