								<description>New York, New York,  The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,171-bed, tertiary- and quaternary-care teaching facility located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.&#xa0; It is the flagship hospital in the eight hospital Mount Sinai Health System. The Mount Sinai Hospital services a diverse patient population that spans the spectrum from neonates to geriatrics. &#xa0;The Pharmacy Department at The Mount Sinai Hospital follows a decentralized model. We have a number of pharmacy satellites located on patient units and have centralized many distributive functions. Our Clinical Services include an Investigational Drug Service, Oncology, Transplant, Pediatrics, Critical Care and Antimicrobial Stewardship. We maintain a formal teaching affiliation with Long Island University, Touro University, and St. John&#8217;s University.&#xa0; Our PGY1 program provides each resident with specific learning/practice experiences to enable the resident to expand the scope of their practice skills.&#xa0; These experiences will be varied in nature, with an overall emphasis on patient care and the pharmacist&#8217;s responsibility to patients for the outcomes of drug therapy through participation in interdisciplinary rounds. All residents will complete a residency project and an MUE, in addition to participating in multiple interdisciplinary committees and projects. 
 
 Residency rotations 
 
 
 All residents complete internal medicine, infectious disease, administration, and a research block. Drug info is a required longitudinal rotation. 
 Residents select  at least  one general practice, one specialty practice and one advanced practice
 
 General practice options: emergency medicine, pediatrics, nutrition support 
 Specialty options: oncology or transplant 
 Advanced practice options: critical care or a second rotation in another area 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 Elective rotations: cardiology, geriatrics, clinical trials, med safety, nephrology, palliative care, others can be arranged based upon availability and resident interest 
 All rotations are one month, with the exception of December. Your December rotation will begin upon your return from mid year and continue through January (~7 weeks) 
 
 
 Service requirements
 
 Staffing: one evening shift per week, rotating on a quarterly basis through pediatrics, intensive care, med/surg, main pharmacy 
 Administrator on duty: one in four weekends (Sat and Sun) onsite supervisor/manager. Also 2 or 3 holidays as onsite admin.&#xa0; 
 
 
 Residents must be eligible for licensure in NYS and must have a NYS intern permit by July 1.&#xa0; Applicants from schools outside of NYS can elect to take the practical portion of the licensing exam with us or take the state exam. Our exam is similar in content and design to the state exam. Residents should become licensed by October 1 st , but must be licensed by November 1 st

								<description>Waterbury, Connecticut,  The ASHP-Accredited PGY1 Residency at Waterbury Hospital is a dynamic program focused on pharmacotherapy in a variety of practice settings. The program offers rotations in general practice and specialty areas, including Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pain Management, Psychiatry and Longitudinal Ambulatory Care experience at the Chase Clinic (clinic includes Patient Referrals, Anticoagulation &#38; Diabetes clinics). During this year residents can expect to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a clinical pharmacist in a community hospital setting. &#xa0; Orientation to the Hospital and Pharmacy Department occurs at the start of each residency year. &#xa0;At this time, the program director will develop a rotation schedule tailored to the resident&#8217;s needs and interests. &#xa0;The core rotations of this residency fulfill the requirements for an ASHP accredited program. These include anticoagulation, antimicrobial stewardship, critical care, family medicine, internal medicine, medication safety, oncology, practice management, transitions of care, and staffing &#38; pharmacy operations.&#xa0; The resident will also complete two elective rotations of their choice. Throughout the residency year, the resident will staff one day or night a week, every third weekend, and take at-home call on average 3 nights per month. &#xa0;The resident will participate in code blue and inpatient code stroke response. &#xa0;The resident will also have the opportunity to develop communication and teaching skills through providing formal presentations and co-precepting pharmacy students, along with completing an optional teaching certificate program.&#xa0; For successful completion of the residency program, the resident will be expected to prepare and complete a research project suitable for publication and presentation at the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Meeting and the Eastern States Residency Conference.</description>

Emphasis is on development of skills involving optimization of medication therapy outcomes through use of evidence-based medicine. Residency training is designed around the ASHP&#39;s (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) Residency Learning System model. Teaching skills are developed on-site and through opportunities at Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University&#xa0;in Boston. The resident will have an opportunity to obtain a teaching certificate. In addition, a multidisciplinary collaborative research project is conducted and presented at the Eastern States Regional Residency Conference.
