								<description>Waterbury, Connecticut,  The ASHP-Accredited PGY1 Residency at Waterbury Hospital is a dynamic program focused on pharmacotherapy in a variety of practice settings. The program offers rotations in general practice and specialty areas, including Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pain Management, Psychiatry and Longitudinal Ambulatory Care experience at the Chase Clinic (clinic includes Patient Referrals, Anticoagulation &#38; Diabetes clinics). Rotation schedules and assignments are flexible allowing for extra time in areas of interest. Residents have an opportunity to develop teaching skills by providing didactic and experiential education for University of Connecticut&#xa0;and University of St. Joseph pharmacy students. Residents will also have the opportunity to complete a Teaching Certificate Program, and conduct a research project to be presented at local, regional and national conferences. 
 Waterbury Hospital is a private, acute care teaching facility. Waterbury Hospital is licensed for 357 beds. Each year we care for approximately 15,000 inpatients, treat more than 21,000 people in our outpatient medical clinics, and handle more than 56,000 Emergency Department visits. Our Behavioral Health Center, one of the largest in the region, logs more than 50,000 outpatient visits per year. Meanwhile, our One-Day Surgery department serves approximately 6,000 area residents annually. Waterbury Hospital is the second-largest employer in Waterbury, after the City of Waterbury itself, with over 2,000 employees, including full-time, part-time and per diem individuals.
