The UR Pharmacy Department is committed to improving the well-being of patients by delivering innovative, compassionate, patient- and family-centered comprehensive medication management, enriched by education, science, and technology. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a 12-month, full-time curriculum which provides the essential elements needed to mold a well-rounded clinical pharmacist. This intensive training involves activities in a wide variety of practice settings including: designing and managing drug treatment regimens for patients, participating in pharmacy practice management activities to broaden the resident's understanding of the role of pharmacy and its integration into the healthcare system, and discovering innovative opportunities in patient safety and informatics. The schedule for the residency year is tailored to meet the needs and interests of the individual resident. The resident will rotate through the following core rotations: Orientation /Pharmacy Practice (3-4 weeks), Internal Medicine (8 weeks), Cardiology (4 weeks), Ambulatory Care (4 weeks) and Critical Care (4 weeks). The remainder of the year is spent on elective rotations.
