Community Medical Center (CMC), located in Toms River, NJ, is a RWJBarnabas Health facility the state’s most comprehensive health system and the 15th largest in the nation. CMC is an academic medical center with residencies in internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery and podiatry, offering a comprehensive array of services including advanced cancer care, sophisticated neurology and neurosurgery services, cardiac care, emergency medicine and maternal and child health care. The hospital is the recipient of numerous awards for clinical excellence and offers robust community education programs designed to keep our community healthy.

PROGRAM PURPOSE
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board
certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES
TWO PGY1 Positions available
Graduates of the program will develop and strengthen the following:
• Leadership and pharmacy practice management.
• Time management and project coordination.
• Evidence-based, patient-centered medication management with interdisciplinary teams.
• Provide education to healthcare professionals and the public.
• Perform pharmacy practice research. The resident will be involved in all stages of research from project conception to completion. They will present their findings at ASHP’s Midyear meeting and at the Eastern States Residency conference.
• Practical application of pharmacotherapy principles.

OPPORTUNITIES
LEADERSHIP | RWJBarnabas Health Leadership Forum is designed for the PGY1 and PGY2 residents in the RWJBarnabas system to gain experience and expertise in Leadership and Management in addition to their already established learning experiences. The topics taught are items that are not a part of traditional clinical training and gained by many on the fly or in a situational basis. Topics include: team
building, collaboration, human resource management, goal setting, metrics, financial management, culture, business etiquette and networking. Through 6 offsite interactive sessions, residents are provided with dedicated time to review and develop these skills.
Additionally, these sessions allow the formation of a deeper connection and  relationship with the residents across the Enterprise.

TEACHING | Residents will have the opportunity to work with the two Fairleigh Dickinson School of Pharmacy Professors at the site and participate in a teaching certificate program offered by Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy that will strengthen
precepting skills.

PGY2 – CRITICAL CARE | Community Medical Center PGY1 residents will have the opportunity to work with the PGY2 Critical Care resident throughout the residency year. CMC is one of the only PGY2 Critical Care residency programs in New Jersey.

About RWJBH - Community Medical Center PGY-1 Residency

PGY1 Residency Program Mission, Vision, Values The PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency program at Community Medical Center offers opportunities for residents to strengthen and expand their clinical knowledge, hone research and presentation skills and develop confidence to practice as clinical pharmacists in a variety of healthcare settings. There are two PGY1 position available at CMC. We participate in the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service and will be participating in the ASHP Residency Matching Service for all classes.
