PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
This is a 1 year, PGY1 residency program that offers core and elective rotations in Ambulatory Care, Geriatrics, Burn, Cardiology, Critical Care, Drug Information, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Practice Management and Leadership, Renal Transplant, and others. The Pharmacy Resident routinely participates in various hospital committees, clinical initiatives, educational programs, and other leadership and direct patient care projects. They are expected to complete 2 research projects and present their results at national and local pharmacy meetings. There are opportunities for precepting and teaching pharmacy students on clinical rotations as well as the ability to obtain a professional academic teaching certificate from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. Writing and presentation skills are developed through various assignments and preparation of a publishable manuscript is expected. Educational opportunities including certification in BLS, ACLS, and immunization techniques, as well as involvement in the local Society of Health-System of Pharmacy are activities that the Department covers. Upon completion, the resident will be prepared for leadership roles in independent general clinical practice, academia, or further specialized training.
Candidates must hold a valid New Jersey license by October 1st . Resume, college transcripts, and three letters of recommendation should be sent to the site by application date.
