12 month ASHP accredited residency program at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is a nationally recognized, full-service general pediatric hospital licensed for 206 beds, and it is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state of Virginia. It was originally opened in 1961 and completely renovated in 1994. CHKD attends to the needs of children on many levels, in addition to supporting pediatric education and research. Our patients come from a broad region that includes southeastern Virginia, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and northeastern North Carolina. We provide the full range of inpatient and outpatient care for children facing both common and complex illnesses. We house the region’s only non-military Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the region’s largest and most experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, a comprehensive inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and Transitional Care Unit, and short-stay areas for routine treatments. CHKD offers a flexible PGY2 residency specializing in pediatric critical care. The PGY2 residency is also ASHP accredited. The core rotations include: pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care and emergency medicine. This resident also functions as the chief resident for the residency program. The PGY2 residency may be an early commit elected from one of the CHKD PGY1 residents who is interested in staying at CHKD for a second year of training.
Students currently in the final year of their doctor of pharmacy curriculum at an accredited school or college of pharmacy or pharmacists currently holding a doctor of pharmacy degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy may submit an application for the PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at CHKD. Applications will be accepted until January 1. Prospective residents may apply through the Pharmacy Online Residency Application Service (PHORCAS) at www.ashp.org/phorcas. A letter of intent, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, a professional picture, and college transcripts should be included when applying online. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Virginia.
