The Pharmacy PGY1 Residency is a 12-month program with an emphasis in acute care and experiences in ambulatory care, practice management, drug policy and formulary management, hospital practice and academic development. Required concentrated learning experiences include an orientation to residency and hospital practice, practice management, transition of care/decentralized pharmacy services, internal medicine, advanced adult medicine, critical care (two months), and emergency medicine. Required year-long longitudinal learning experiences include clinical services (consultation service), hospital formulary and policy management, hospital practice (staffing component), medication safety/management, pharmacy/family medicine clinic, the residency (research) project, and teaching and education. Elective rotations are available in the anticoagulation clinic, cardiology, hematology oncology, infectious disease, population health (through BSMH) and trauma service as well as an opportunity for an additional month in either critical care or emergency medicine (flexibility exists to create additional electives or repeat a required one-month rotation). In addition to the design and conduct of a major research project, the resident will participate in the education of pharmacy students, resident physicians and other healthcare professionals. Residents participate in a longitudinal teaching certificate program (offered by the Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy) that provides an opportunity to improve their didactic, small group and experiential teaching skills.
Interested candidates should submit the following, via the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS), no later than January 2nd. Required Application Materials: 1. Letter of intent – must include: your current practice interests, why you are interested in pursuing a residency, and examples of what you hope to accomplish upon completion of a residency program 2. Curriculum vitae (CV) 3. Academic transcripts 4. Three letters of recommendation (completed using the PhORCAS standardized reference form). Residency candidates must be eligible for Ohio licensure. Please note that we are not able to sponsor visas for pharmacy residents. Upon receipt and review of all application materials, individual candidates will be selected for on-site and/or virtual interviews at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in January and February.
