Mission and PurposeProvidence St. Peter Family Medicine pharmacy residency is committed to excellence in patient-centered care and advancement of pharmacy practice. The purpose of Providence St. Peter Family Medicine residency program is to train pharmacists who specialize in provision of primary care services within an interdisciplinary team while advancing patient-centered care through quality improvement, practice-based leadership, and education of the health care team. This residency prepares pharmacists to pursue an ambulatory care role where initiation and expansion of services are needed, and pharmacy leadership and education are desired. Fostering IndependencePreceptors emphasize independence and growth in all learning experiences. By fostering ownership of clinical tasks, educational endeavors, and project management, we aim to graduate pharmacists who are prepared to thrive as an independent ambulatory care pharmacist. CurriculumProvidence St. Peter Family Medicine Residency is a multi-site program where residents practice longitudinally at their family medicine teaching clinic, St. Peter Family Medicine or Chehalis Family Medicine. The resident will be a credentialed member of the medical team and will practice independently, managing chronic disease states of their patient panel using extensive collaborative practice agreements and billing insurance for services rendered. The residency year is arranged longitudinally so that residents spend 2 days/week in their continuity clinic, 1.5 days/week working on administrative tasks or their service enhancement project, and 1.5 days/week rotating through blocks of required rotations and electives. Electives are resident-driven, adjusted based on resident interests and career goals. Required Experiences
Elective ExperiencesResidents have the opportunity for 10 weeks of elective time. Each elective may be developed as a block or longitudinal experience. Residents collaborate with their preceptors to create an experience unique to their personal goals. New electives may be created at the resident’s request, if available.
Work and Life BalanceWe believe in cultivating a resident’s ability to maintain work life balance while sustaining the highest level of patient care and active leadership in pharmacy practice. There is no staffing requirement and dedicated project time is scheduled 12 hours per week. Southwest Washington is the ideal location for personal wellness, adventure, and relaxation. See our website for more information about the Olympia and the Chehalis communities. For more information on what it is like to work at St. Peter Family Medicine, view the videos created by the medical residency program discussing our patient care values, educational goals, and connection with the community.
