The Pharmacy Residency Program at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – Fenton is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited experience designed to develop residents’ clinical knowledge through exposure to a variety of practice settings. We offer 4 Pharmacy PGY1 residency positions each year and create a program that corresponds with our residents’ specific needs and interests. The program’s required rotations include:

Our program also provides multiple opportunities for residents to teach and perform research in the pharmacy field. In addition to participating in Pharm.D. candidate experiential training during advanced pharmacy practice experiences, residents are required to take part in the Resident Education Academy offered by the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, from which they receive a teaching certificate. Residents also develop and present a continuing education presentation for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis' Resident Seminar Series. Residents gain valuable, hands-on experience working with multidisciplinary teams while serving on committees and providing care to patients throughout the hospital. Residents are also required to conduct and complete a longitudinal research or quality improvement project and present it at the annual Midwest Pharmacy Residency Conference in Omaha, NE. SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Fenton Pharmacy Department: Our decentralized pharmacy staff consists of approximately 60 employees inclusive of 20 pharmacists. Our clinical pharmacy services are carried out by clinical pharmacy specialists, PGY-1 pharmacy residents, and other decentralized clinical pharmacy staff. These clinical pharmacy services focus primarily on internal medicine (general medicine, cardiology, and neurology), critical care (level 2 stroke and STEMI center with a 28-bed mixed medical/surgical intensive care unit) and ambulatory care (family medicine and outpatient anticoagulation clinics). In addition to direct patient care activities, clinical pharmacists perform antimicrobial stewardship activities, complete pharmacokinetic and other clinical consults, educate patients and providers, and precept students on advanced pharmacy practice experiences. Our pharmacy utilizes the latest advances in technology, including the EPIC electronic health record, automated dispensing cabinets and medication storage devices, and advanced inventory technology to deliver optimum patient care. Unique features of the hospital include 100% private patient rooms, a decentralized nursing model, and a 503b outsourcing pharmacy.
Eligibility Requirements: 1. Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy 2. Missouri licensee or eligible for Missouri licensure

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Fenton, a Level I Time Critical Diagnosis STEMI Center and a Level I Stroke Center, serves the medical needs of the expanding community in southwest St. Louis County and specializes in heart and vascular, neurosciences, cancer care, maternity and other medical services.
