This residency is designed for flexibility to meet the training needs of the resident and produce a well-rounded, independent ambulatory care practitioner. The program consists of a minimum of 2000 contact hours in a variety of practice settings. All residents have core rotations in primary care (including internal medicine, family medicine), ambulatory care specialties, and acute care. Primary care rotations will be longer in duration (two rotations of 5 weeks and 3 weeks) to allow for continuity of care and development of extended patient relationships. Residents also have orientation, practice management and drug information rotations. Residents select their ambulatory care specialty rotations from a broad range of options including cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and psych. Others can be arranged depending on resident interests and availability. Residents become privileged under multiple collaborative practice agreements to allow for practicing at the top of their license. Each resident selects an advisor from preceptors for their major project, and a coach for the optional teaching certificate program. The staffing requirement includes staffing evenings and weekends.
