The Virginia Mason Franciscan Health – St. Anne Hospital pharmacy residency is a PGY1 program fully accredited by ASHP. Our mission is to develop competent, confident pharmacy practitioners who will function effectively in various health environments, while developing skills in pharmacy practice management. Clinical learning experiences assist the residents to expand their knowledge of therapeutics and aid in the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Leadership and professionalism will be strengthened through the practice management component of the residency program. The residency experience is tailored by the resident development plan to help the resident achieve individual career goals. A variety of opportunities will be afforded to the resident indirect patient care, precepting, education, and management experiences. Pharmacists completing this program will function as independent patient-focused practitioners who are able to provide care in multiple environments across the pharmacy practice continuum. As integral members of the health care team, residents work to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for their patients. They will display leadership and professionalism in all aspects of their practice and function as effective communicators and educators. Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent and confident practitioners who will be prepared for a variety of endeavors, including (1) an immediate position as an inpatient clinical pharmacist and (2) extension of residency training as a PGY2 in areas such as oncology, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, or management. The inpatient pharmacy provides 24 hour/seven days per week services. Our department includes 15 staff pharmacists and 15 non-pharmacist staff.
