Residency Showcase Program Listings

The ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has a strong focus on patient care, education and research, which are hallmarks of the mission shared by Johns Hopkins Medicine. The program has received national recognition from American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), with an expansion grant to further grow an already successful program. Residents have graduated and become leaders in oncology, critical care, ambulatory care and internal medicine with premier medical centers across the country.

Established in 2002, the program has consistently played an integral role in the promotion of clinical pharmacy services and research, expansion of clinical programs, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) and the Johns Hopkins Bayview community. The program has developed strong professional relationships with partner Johns Hopkins Medicine residency programs and neighboring residency programs, as well as area colleges of pharmacy, thus fostering professional growth and strengthening post-graduate training.

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education to contribute to the development of highly trained clinical pharmacists, eligible for board certification and for postgraduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.

The program is customized for each resident based on his or her goals, interests and experience, and offers three distinct learning experiences throughout the 12-month program: required, elective and longitudinal experiences.

Resident Requirements

The resident must be a United States citizen or permanent resident, or, for non-residents, must hold an F1 visa with 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) work permit.

Graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy, or, for foreign graduates, must have received Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certification.

Residents are required to become a licensed pharmacist in the State of Maryland preferably by August 1, but no later than September 1.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, founded in 1773, is one of the oldest, continuous health care systems on the East coast.
