Residency Showcase Program Listings

SwedishAmerican A Division of UW Health is a 357-bed, full-service, non-profit hospital serving the greater Rockford region, northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. SwedishAmerican is also a teaching hospital that hosts the University of Illinois College of Medicine's residency program. Clinical pharmacists are assigned to the emergency department, each floor of the hospital, specialty pharmacy, cancer center, retail pharmacy, and the pharmacist managed anticoagulation clinic.

The PGY1 Community-Based residency program at SwedishAmerican allows the resident to experience a wide range of practice areas including Specialty Pharmacy, Outpatient Pharmacy, Pharmacy Management, Administration, Academia, Community Outreach, Ambulatory Care and Informatics. Outpatient clinics residents gain experience within include Diabetes Management, Medication Management, Oncology, Hypertension and Anticoagulation.  Specialty areas include, but are not limited to, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, HIV, Hepatitis, Hyperlipidemia, Growth Hormone, Asthma, Psoriasis, Hemophilia and Psoriatic Arthritis.

Elective Monthly Learning Experiences:

• Critical Access Hospital
• Gastroenterology
• Headache

Program Information:

• Number of Positions: 2
• Start Date: Last week of June
• Staffing/Clinical Pharmacy Services: One day a week and every other weekend
• Annual Stipend: $47,500

Program Requirements:

• Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy
• Current licensure from State of Illinois (or eligible for Illinois licensure)
• US Citizen or permanent resident of the United States

Required Residency Activities:

• BLS/ACLS certification
• Hospital committee involvement
• Grand Rounds
• Design and complete a residency project
• Complete medication use evaluations (MUEs)
• ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting poster presentation and Regional Pharmacy Resident Conference presentation
• Teaching Certificate (optional)
