Residency Showcase Program Listings

This Safeway Pharmacy/Midwestern University – College of Pharmacy Glendale Program is based in the Phoenix metropolitan area with near perfect year-round weather, music, culture, outdoor recreation, sports, and dining. Our Safeway Pharmacy leadership work closely with the Arizona Board of Pharmacy and the Arizona Pharmacy Association to advance pharmacy practice. Our pharmacists can administer a growing list of medications, immunizations, perform health screenings, and work as a member of the healthcare team to manage patient disease states. 

Each resident is assigned a home-base community pharmacy site where approximately 40% of time is spent. The Sun City West and Scottsdale community sites have a dedicated team of experienced preceptors to mentor the resident through the year. Both sites are
located near the Deer Valley Corporate and Division offices where leadership and
management learning experiences take place.

Our advanced community-based patient care learning experiences are supplemented
with ambulatory care-based patient care at the Mission of Mercy and Valleywise
Comprehensive Health Center. Through our partnership with Midwestern University –
College of Pharmacy Glendale, the resident participates in the Habits of Preceptors (HOP) project, a teaching and learning curriculum, performs research, and is appointed as a visiting faculty member.

Unique aspects of this program include the Southwest residency team being active
locally in the advancement of the profession through the Arizona Board of Pharmacy
and Arizona Pharmacy Association. Our strong leadership roles can afford residents
interested in these areas opportunities to learn more about the development and
advancement of pharmacy in Arizona. Our residents have the unique
opportunity to work side by side with other health care professionals as a team to care
for the underserved population of Maricopa County. The Mission of Mercy clinic provides residents a hands-on approach to healthcare management of common disease states and minor acute illnesses while balancing cultural and socio-economic factors affecting their patients. Valleywise Health Center experience provides residents the opportunity to be part of a healthcare team with a focus on chronic condition
management and emphasis on behavioral health.

Pharm.D. degree and licensure in state of residency required. Official academic transcript, CV, letter of intent, and three letters of recommendation submitted to PhORCAS.
