The PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is a newly emerging program currently holding pre-candidate status with ASHP. This program will accept one resident for each academic year. This program will provide extensive Specialty Pharmacy experience through core rotations covering multiple specialty therapeutic categories. Residents will select three (3) elective rotations to meet their professional goals in addition to the orientation to pharmacy operations and completion of practice-related required learning experiences. After successfully completing this program, the resident should attain the knowledge and skills needed to enable them to provide a high level of service and pharmaceutical care throughout their careers as a well-rounded community, specialty or ambulatory care pharmacist.
Graduate from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program with a Pharm.D. degree
Minimum GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale or "Pass" grade on each class and rotation if from a "Pass/Fail" program

The University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX is comprised of the academic medical center, four outpatient cancer infusion centers, one hospital-based infusion center, five retail pharmacies, and two specialty pharmacies. The UT Southwestern Medical Center Pharmacy Residency Programs consists of four ASHP-accredited programs in PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, PGY1/PGY2 in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL), PGY2 Critical Care (CC), and PGY2 Investigational Drugs and Research (IDR). ASHP-candidate status programs are PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy, PGY2 Cardiology, and PGY2 Oncology.
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program will accept three (3) residents and one (1) resident each for PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy, PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL, PGY2 Cardiology, PGY2 CC, PGY2 IDR, and PGY2 Oncology for each academic year. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is one-year training training program which allows residents to select 5 elective rotations to meet their professional goals in addition to orientation to pharmacy operations and completion of the practice related required learning experiences. Residents will also complete a Teaching Certificate through Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center College of Pharmacy in addition to completing longitudinal experiences in research, medication use evaluation, code blue/code stroke management, professional development, and staffing. After training in acute care, ambulatory care, and practice management, residents should attain the knowledge and skills needed to enable them to provide a high level of clinical service and pharmaceutical care throughout their careers as a well-rounded practitioners and practice leaders.

The PGY1/PGY2/MBA Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership Residency Program is a two-year experience with the goal of preparing future leaders for a career within the administrative and/or leadership healthcare sector. The PGY1 completes all items listed above in addition to having leadership experiences within the first year. The PGY2 will complete leadership and administrative focused rotations including inpatient operations II/medication use systems; ambulatory services; clinical services management; oncology operations; executive pharmacy leadership; and internal or external rotational opportunities. After training in various clinical and administrative practice settings, the resident is expected to function as a versatile pharmacy leader to manage diverse areas in pharmacy services.

The PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program which provides advanced training in the comprehensive management of cardiovascular diseases within a leading academic medical center. Residents gain robust experience across acute and ambulatory cardiology services, including cardiac ICU, cardiovascular ICU, general cardiology, cardiac transplant, anticoagulation clinic, cardio-metabolic clinic, cardiology consults, and advanced heart failure.

The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program designed to provide an opportunity for the resident to function independently as practitioner and develop strong clinical foundation and leadership skills. The resident will engage in project management to foster development of leadership and problem-solving skills. The program offers seven core/required clinical learning experiences in addition to orientation, research and one elective. After completion of training, the resident will be prepared for advanced patient care, academic or other specialized positions, along with board certification in critical care.

The PGY2 Investigational Drugs and Research Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program designed to provide an opportunity for the resident to develop a strong clinical foundation, knowledge, leadership skills and experience to specialize in clinical research and investigational drug services. The PGY2 Investigational Drug and Research Pharmacy Resident will complete rotation experiences in leadership/management, inpatient and outpatient oncology investigational drug service (IDS) operations, oncology clinical trial office operations, research quality / medication safety, and regulatory compliance in addition to clinical patient care rotations in Phase 1 Oncology, outpatient Oncology, and Heme-Malignancy. Longitudinal experiences will include opportunities for clinical trial reviews on the Institutional Review Board and Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee, and a staffing component. Elective rotation opportunities may include research informatics and data management, clinical trial pharmacology, and non-oncology clinical trial office operations. These rotations will allow the resident to work closely with IDS pharmacists as well as supervising IDS technicians, oncology clinical pharmacist specialists, director of oncology pharmacy and pharmacy managers, physicians and advanced practice providers, as well as various clinical trial staff.

The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program that offers advanced training in the management of complex malignant and hematologic disorders within a nationally recognized NCI-designated cancer center. Residents gain comprehensive experience across inpatient and outpatient medical oncology, hematologic malignancies, blood and marrow transplant, cellular therapy, infusion services, and interdisciplinary ambulatory clinics.
