We invite you to learn more about our programs through the following events.
UGA-GSHP Residency Roundtable (virtual) - Wednesday, November 5th, 6-7:30pm EST
Established in 1996 Grady Memorial Hospital's Pharmacy Residency programs have a long-standing history for a commitment to excellence in patient care and residency training. Pharmacy residency training at Grady occurs under the preceptorship of full-time, Grady-employed clinical pharmacists. All members of the clinical staff have one or two years of residency training from an accredited program. Residents participate in a 24-hour, in-house, on-call program unique to only a few programs nationally. In this capacity, they are responsible for addressing drug information questions, responding to pharmacokinetic consults, anticoagulation consults, and participating as a member of the Code Blue Response and Stroke Response teams. Internal Medicine services at Grady consist of 17 IM teaching teams and faculty hospitalist services staffed by physicians from Emory and Morehouse Schools of Medicine.
The Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency offers diverse opportunities for the resident to concentrate on broadening their clinical skills and knowledge base in the area of internal medicine. The environment of an academic medical center with extensive medical specialties and a diverse patient population provide ample learning experiences for one to develop into a successful independent practitioner. The expertise of a large clinical pharmacy staff provides a strong group of mentors within the different specialties of the profession.
The PGY-2 Internal Medicine (IM) Residency is designed to provide advanced training in internal medicine pharmacotherapy. It will begin on July 1 and continue through June 30.
Program Fundamentals:
The primary emphasis of the residency is to develop clinicians with expertise in pharmacotherapy of internal medicine and related areas. Over the course of the year the resident will: gain experience in the management of common and uncommon medical diseases; develop a solid understanding of disease state pathophysiology and treatment of commonly used medications; strengthen his/her communications skills through formal and informal presentations and interactions with other healthcare professionals in a variety of settings; participate in medical and pharmacy related interdisciplinary committees. In addition, the resident will enhance his/her teaching skills by precepting pharmacy practice residents and/or students on internal medicine rotations.
Residents completing this program will become a well-rounded, independent internal medicine pharmacy practitioner.
