Residency Showcase Program Listings

Rhode Island Hospital, in partnership with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island, are proud to offer ASHP-accredited PGY2 residencies in both Oncology and Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. Residents are directed in skills critical to patient care, communication, and leadership within a multidisciplinary health care team.  Our residency showcase is Tuesday, December 7 from 8-11am, booth 5551.

Rhode Island Hospital is a world-class academic and research facility: the state's largest acute care hospital, a level-1 trauma center and the principal teaching hospital for Brown University's medical school as well as the recipient of the "100 Most Wired" Award for three consecutive years. We are affiliated with the University of Rhode Island, College of Pharmacy. Our pharmacy is an innovative, clinically stimulating, technology-intense, and professionally rewarding environment to learn and practice in. Located in the vibrant city of Providence, it is also within minutes of beaches and miles of coastline in the Ocean State.

Purpose

Our PGY2 residency programs provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academia, or other specialized positions, along with board certification.

The oncology residency program provides comprehensive experiences in hematology and oncology clinical pharmacy practice. Experiences include providing pharmaceutical care to acute and ambulatory (adult and pediatric) hematology/oncology patients, investigational drug services, palliative care, and a variety of elective and longitudinal rotations. Residents will also function as adjunct faculty for pharmacy students on rotation and in didactic learning experiences at the College of Pharmacy. 

The ambulatory care residency program provides an opportunity to develop the necessary skills for specialized practice in ambulatory care clinical pharmacy. Residents will be directed in skills critical to patient care, communication and leadership along with comprehensive experiences involving collaborative practice and medication therapy management in a variety of practice settings. Practice settings include, but are not limited to, adult primary care, diabetes mellitus, dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, specialty pharmacy, transitions of care and renal transplantation. Residents will also function as adjunct faculty for pharmacy students on rotation and in didactic learning experiences at the College of Pharmacy.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree, eligibility for RI licensure, completion of pharmacy practice residency (PGY1), personal on-site interview, letter of intent, three letters of recommendation, and one example of a project (e.g. case presentation with discussion, drug use evaluation, didactic lecture, etc.) completed during PGY1 residency program.
