The Coastal Medical/URI residency is a unique 12-month PGY-1 residency providing direct patient care in outpatient primary care practices. The resident works collaboratively as a member of the healthcare team to prevent and alleviate medication-related problems, optimize patient outcomes, advance the workflows for medication use and safety in primary care, and evaluate the impact of medication management services. The resident will receive training in the delivery of direct patient care, the enhancement of professional communication and interpersonal skills, academic teaching, student precepting and management skills. Clinical experiences may include adult internal medicine, diabetes, cardiology, pulmonology, smoking cessation and pain management. The resident will have the opportunity to complete a medication class review and provide drug information services while on rotation at the URI Drug Information Services.

Our student precepting environment allows residents to develop strong teaching skills. Our capable research staff is an excellent resource for assisting the resident in developing a solid foundation in research design and analysis.
