Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego is the county’s longest-established medical center and an academic teaching hospital, STEMI receiving center, Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center and a Level I Trauma Center. The emergency department is one of the busiest in San Diego, which sees approximately 75,000 patients annually in the heart of downtown San Diego. Our pharmacy department is open 24/7 and includes a central pharmacy and OR satellite locations. The department includes more than 30 clinical pharmacists, with specialized expertise spanning critical care, trauma, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, medication therapy management, and psychiatry.
The emergency department has over 25 medical attendings, five nurse practitioners and three pharmacist attendings along with medical residents who rotate through the program. The trauma service consists of six attending trauma surgeons, surgical interns and residents, and emergency medicine residents.
This specialized residency will train the resident to practice independently as an emergency medicine pharmacist specialist in a variety of practice settings such as adult emergency medicine, community emergency medicine, medical ICU, surgical ICU, and infectious disease along with a variety of elective rotations. The resident will precept students and PGY1 residents on emergency medicine rotations. Residents selected for this program participate in management activities for clinical programs and operations at Scripps hospitals.
Applicants must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited PharmD program (or in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NAPB), be eligible for California licensure, be enrolled in or have completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency. All applications must be submitted through Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) by January 3rd and participate in the ASHP Match Program.
