Residency Showcase Program Listings

Children's of Alabama is a free-standing, not for profit, pediatric teaching hospital.  Children's offers three (3) ASHP accredited PGY-1 residency positions annually for applicants with a primary interest in pediatric pharmacy practice.  

PGY-1 residents are provided with a broad variety of required pediatric experiences, including pediatric hospital medicine, pediatric intensive care, hematology/oncology, neonatal intensive care, pulmonary, nephrology, and infectious diseases.  In addition, residents participate in longitudinal experiences in pharmacokinetics, ambulatory care, anticoagulation, drug information, pharmacy operations, project management, and practice management.   Elective opportunities allow residents to focus on areas of interest.  Available electives include blood and bone marrow transplant, toxicology, cardiovascular intensive care, cardiology, investigational drug study, advanced practice experiences in core rotations, and additional experiences tailored to resident areas of interest.

An optional teaching and learning certificate program is available, and certification in BLS and PALS is provided. Residents qualify for Children’s of Alabama benefits and receive travel and meeting registration reimbursement for the fall AlSHP meeting, ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, and annual PPA meeting.  Residents receive an estimated annual stipend of $53,560.

Application requirements include: Pharm.D. degree, eligibility for Alabama licensure, letter of interest, curriculum vitae, pharmacy school transcript, three letters of recommendation (including one from an employer or supervisor), photograph of applicant, and on-site interview including presentation to preceptors. Applicants must not use any nicotine-containing products.  Applications accepted using PhORCAS and the NMS.
