Residency Showcase Program Listings

Wellstar MCG Health affiliated with the Medical College of Georgia (formerly AU Medical Center) provides a 12 month PGY1 Pharmacy Residency that has been ASHP-accredited since 1975. Through activities integrated into our robust residency training, our pharmacy residents teach and precept for the University of Georgia (UGA) College of Pharmacy and earn a Teaching Certificate upon completion. The Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center post-graduate experience provides comprehensive training in acute care, ambulatory care, long term care, drug information, med-use policy development, practice management, teaching and research at a tertiary care academic medical center.  Residents will have an unpaid appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at UGA.

• Variety of core and elective rotation experiences offered (pediatrics, critical care, oncology, ambulatory care, internal medicine, management, cardiology, solid organ transplant, infectious disease, etc.)
• Robust teaching portfolio with UGA Teaching Certificate
• PGY2 opportunities (critical care, oncology, pediatrics, ambulatory care, infectious disease)
• Substantial scholarship and leadership opportunities
• Code Blue response team
• Committee Participation (P&T Committee, Medication Safety Committee)
• Medication Use Evaluation/Performance Improvement leadership for residents
• Investigational Drug Services/ Clinical Research Pharmacy/ IRB
• Inpatient pharmacy staffing coverage on weekends/early evenings

The flexibility of the residency design allows residents to individualize the program to meet their specific needs and interests.

This residency trains pharmacists for practice as clinician-educators providing advanced clinical services in academic health care settings or other organized health-system environments with substantive precepting and/or teaching responsibilities.  They will be leaders and change agents at their practice site and for the profession. Many graduates continue with PGY2 specialty training before entering clinical practice or assuming a clinical faculty role.

Our PGY1 residency has been ASHP-accredited since 1975 (originally under the facility name Medical College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics and MCG Health, Inc.). We have 5 decades of residency graduates who are making a difference every day!

Applicants for the Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center residencies must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Georgia at the start of the residency.

Wellstar MCG pharmacists have teaching appointments as clinical faculty and pharmacy preceptors for the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and institution also serves as the clinical practice site for six full-time UGA pharmacy faculty.
