Residency Showcase Program Listings

This comprehensive program provides training experiences in the fundamentals of pharmacy practice in an integrated health system. An individualized training plan, based on the resident’s entering level of knowledge, skills, and interests, is developed and adjusted throughout the year. While developing competence to provide patient-centered care in multiple patient care environments, PGY1 residents acquire substantial knowledge required for skillful problem solving and strengthen their professional values. 
Residents have direct patient care opportunities in identifying and resolving drug-related problems while completing required training in inpatient medicine, infectious diseases, ambulatory care, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, and research, primarily at Moses Cone Hospital. A variety of clinical learning experiences are offered throughout the ambulatory services division of Cone Health, where their experiences may include providing tobacco cessation counseling, testing pulmonary function, and managing chronic diseases such as PVD, HIV, heart failure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiac arrhythmias, and thromboembolic disorders. Residents may select up to three electives (for example: ambulatory care clinics, neuro critical care, nutrition support, heart failure stewardship, oncology, neonatal intensive care unit, or pediatrics). 
Each resident completes a research project, conducts a medication use evaluation, responds to emergencies like code blue, learns formulary and medication safety processes, participates in multidisciplinary committees, and serves on one or two of the departmental continuous quality improvement teams. Additionally, all residents provide ACPE CE programs to pharmacy providers and teach in the evidence-based medicine curriculum. A teaching and learning certificate is offered in collaboration with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The residents, along with a Cone Health preceptor, gain experience precepting students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, High Point University, and Campbell University. 

Cone Health pharmacy departments offer PGY2 residency training in cardiology, critical care, infectious diseases, oncology, pediatrics, and a PGY1/PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration and leadership program that grants an M.S. degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Graduate of an ACPE-accredited PharmD program and eligible for licensure in the state of NC. Apply using the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS). Three references should be completed. A program-specific supplemental form should be completed and uploaded to PhORCAS.
