The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at HCA Florida Trinity Hospital is a 52 week-long program that is dedicated to providing a personalized residency experience. The primary emphasis will be on the development of clinical competencies, professional confidence, and leadership and professional skills. Residents will be delegated clinical responsibilities under the preceptorship of a residency preceptor to develop their practice skills. Residents will be given teaching responsibilities to further develop communication skills and abilities as a teacher. Residents will participate in research and service activities to further develop problem-solving skills and ability to work with others.
Available Rotations:
Residents will complete a total of 9 rotations, each 5 weeks long. Core required rotations include the following:
Orientation Neonatal ICU
Internal Medicine I Administration
Internal Medicine II
Critical Care
Infectious Disease
Elective rotations may include but are not limited to the following (two 5 week long rotations):
Critical Care II
Emergency Medicine
Transitions of Care
Infectious Disease II
Surgery/OR
Internal Medicine III- Cardiology
Additional electives may be offered off-site at other HCA West Florida Division Hospitals (pending availability)
Program Requirements:
Major research/service project
Manuscript of project, which must be eligible for journal publishing
Poster presentation at ASHP Midyear Meeting
Presentation at Florida Residency Conference
One 1-hour Continuing education seminar to be presented across HCA West Florida Division
One Graduate Medicine Education (GME) lecture
One Medication use evaluation
One drug class review, monograph, treatment guideline or order set update
Minimum of three journal clubs and three case presentations
8 nursing/pharmacy in-services
Participation in one nursing skills/safety fair
Additional Opportunities:
Involvement in various community events (drug take-back days, community education), if applicable
Residents will staff every other weekend with one day off during the following week. Residents will also work in the central pharmacy one weekday every other week.
Residents are required to staff one winter holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas)
Moonlighting: Residents are not permitted to work additional shifts at HCA Florida Trinity Hospital. Moonlighting at outside facilities is STRONGLY discouraged and must be approved by the residency program director.
HCA Florida Trinity Hospital is a 278 bed, state-of-the-art, all-private room hospital strategically located in the tri-county area of Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough Counties. Trinity Hospital offers a variety of clinical and acute-care programs including: 24/7 emergency care, surgical oncology, behavioral health services, orthopedic and spine care, obstetrics and the only Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Pasco.
