Baptist Health Hardin’s Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy education. The PGY1 residency program is designed to enable the resident to provide progressive pharmacy services in a regional community hospital setting. We strive to contribute to the development of a clinical staff pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
The Baptist Health Hardin PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is ASHP-Accredited and University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) Affiliated. The program is seeking two self-motivated resident candidates with the desire to help build the program.
The program places emphasis on work-life balance and individualized experiences. Residents will complete three elective rotations that are four weeks in length, and six required rotations that are six weeks in length.
Required rotations include:pharmacy practice orientation, internal medicine, infectious disease, emergency medicine, critical care, and ambulatory oncology.
Elective rotations include: information technology, advanced infectious disease, advanced internal medicine, advanced critical care, advanced emergency medicine, advanced ambulatory oncology, and transitions of care.
Residents will obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) Teaching Certificate. There will be additional opportunities for credentialing based on the individual resident's development plan and elective rotation experiences. The affiliation with UKCOP provides Voluntary Faculty Instructor appointments for residents, teaching opportunities at the College, library access, and statistician support.

Prerequisites
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
Licensed pharmacist or licensed intern in the state of Kentucky eligible for licensure
US citizenship/permanent US resident
Admission policy
Residency candidate selected must comply with all requirements for new employees at Baptist Health Hardin, including drug screen and immunizations. Applicants selected for employment will be bound by the rules set forth by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists as well as applicable rules and regulations set by the state of Kentucky and federal law.
Selected candidates will be required to obtain Kentucky Pharmacy Licensure within 90 days of program start.

Our inpatient pharmacy utilizes a central distribution model, complemented by decentralized clinical services during the first shift. Pharmacists are cross-trained to provide both distribution and clinical services. Additional pharmacy services include Antimicrobial Stewardship, Transitions of Care, 365-day ER pharmacy coverage, multidisciplinary critical care rounds, pharmacy code response, medication history services, pharmacy IT support, community pharmacy, and outpatient infusion services. The pharmacy preceptors at Baptist Health Hardin offer valuable learning experiences for our residents and students from multiple colleges of pharmacy. Preceptors deliver robust clinical experience, showcasing a diverse range of board certifications, specialty training, and extensive professional experience all within a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
